Big Game Field Care

Remember the quality of your mount starts as soon as you shoot your animal. To ensure you get the best mount back try dragging as little as possible. Dragging can break the hair off leaving a rough appearance to the mount.Take care of your animal and skin it as soon as possible. Be careful not to split the brisket or cut into the armpits.

For Life size mounts bring the whole animal to the taxidermist

For shoulder mounts you can cape if you feel comfortable doing so and cut at the base of the head.

Roll cape up tight, bag and freeze. If possible roll head into center of skin as these areas are more susceptible to freezer burn.

For antelope or any other game taken when it is very warm out, obviously it's a race against time so the bacteria forming on the animal doesn't create a problem with hair slippage.

Fish
If you catch a fish you wish to get mounted. wrap it in a saturated towel, place in a bag and freeze. The wet towel will protect your fish against freezer burn.

For Reproductions just take a nice picture of the fish, take girth and length measurements and release it.

Birds

For birds I will usually wrap with plastic wrap and bag it making sure all the air is out of the bag. Be careful not to mess up feathers.

Tagging

Any furbearers such as bobcats that require being reported and tagged must have tag attached when received by taxidermist.
